Your Data is Yours

Oreon HQ does not collect telemetry from end-user devices. Our commitment to privacy is absolute; your data remains on your hardware, under your control. We don't track your app usage, your web history, or your files.

Download counts

When you download Oreon from our website, we collect anonymized download counts so we can see how much demand there is and plan server capacity accordingly. Counts are aggregate and anonymized. We do not permanently store individual IP addresses or tie a specific download to you. Bandwidth and delivery may also be handled through Cloudflare for operational planning.

Terms of Use

Use of Oreon

By downloading, installing, or using Oreon, you agree to these terms. Oreon is free and open source software. You may use it for any purpose (personal, educational, or commercial) without paying royalties or asking permission. You may share, modify, and redistribute Oreon in accordance with the licenses of the software it includes and the terms below.

Enterprise and Commercial Offerings

Oreon HQ may offer specific components outside the Oreon OS for enterprise customers, including under separate commercial terms. Such offerings do not change the license or availability of the open source Oreon OS itself.

Open Source and Third-Party Software

Oreon is built from free and open source components. Each component is distributed under its own license (such as the GPL, LGPL, MIT, and others). Your rights and obligations with respect to those components are governed by those licenses. Nothing in these terms restricts the rights granted to you by the applicable open source licenses. Where our own code is included, we license it under terms that are compatible with that ethos: you get the same freedoms to use, study, change, and share.

No Warranty

Oreon is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. This is standard for open source software: we do not guarantee that Oreon will be error-free, secure, or suitable for any particular use. You use it at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so these limitations may not fully apply to you.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Oreon HQ and its contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Oreon (including loss of data, downtime, or business interruption). Our liability is limited to the fullest extent allowed under applicable law.

Trademarks

"Oreon" and the Oreon logo are trademarks of Oreon HQ. You may use the Oreon name and marks to refer to the software and to describe your use of it truthfully. You may not use our trademarks in a way that suggests endorsement, or to brand your own modified distribution, without permission. Independent projects and community efforts that clearly identify themselves as unofficial or community-run are generally fine when they do not mislead users.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page. Continued use of Oreon after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. We do not use these terms to strip you of rights you already have under open source licenses.

Oreon Trademark Policy

What the marks cover

"Oreon", the Oreon logo, "Oreon HQ", "Centrio", and "Oreon Defense" are among the trademarks of Oreon HQ, and the list is not limited to them. This policy covers those marks plus close variations such as "Oreon Linux", and uses of the name in domain names, social media handles, and app store listings. The Oreon operating system is free and open source software. The name and the logo are not, and this policy exists so that anything labeled Oreon is actually from us.

What you can do

You can use the word "Oreon" to refer to the operating system, truthfully. That covers reviews, tutorials, news coverage, comparison charts, and everyday discussion. You can say your hardware ships with Oreon, that your service supports Oreon, or that your project works with Oreon. Community groups, meetups, and mirrors can call themselves Oreon communities as long as they clearly say they are unofficial and not run by or endorsed by Oreon HQ.

What you cannot do

You cannot use the marks as part of a company, product, or service name. You cannot register domains, handles, package repository names, or store listings that include the marks in a way that suggests something is official, affiliated, or endorsed by us. You cannot use the Oreon logo as an account picture, app icon, or branding for something that is not ours. You cannot claim we tested, certified, or endorse what you offer when we have not.

Modified distributions

If you fork Oreon or build a distribution from our packages, rename it. Do not ship a modified build under the Oreon name or with the Oreon logo, because users have no way to tell your build from an official one. Saying that something is "based on Oreon" or "built from Oreon packages" is fine, that is a factual statement about origin, not branding.

Squatting and impersonation

Domains, handles, repository names, and store listings that are registered on the marks and then held unused, held to sell, or used to mislead or impersonate us are infringements. We will report them to registrars, platforms, and registries, and use the procedures available to us, including UDRP and platform takedown processes. If you see something like that, tell us at team@oreonhq.com.

Commercial use

Selling hardware with Oreon preinstalled, offering support or hosting around Oreon, or otherwise using Oreon in your business is fine with truthful labeling. If you want to use the marks in advertising, or need permission for something broader, contact us at team@oreonhq.com before you do.

Enforcement

We enforce these marks so the name stays trustworthy for everyone who uses it honestly. Use that does not stop after a request may receive a takedown notice. Questions, permission requests, and reports go to team@oreonhq.com.

Terms of Service

Hosted services

These terms apply to services Oreon HQ hosts. The Terms of Use above apply to the Oreon operating system. The hosted services are the main website (oreonhq.com), the community forum (community.oreonhq.com), the Matrix homeserver (chat.oreonhq.com), the wiki (wiki.oreonhq.com), the build service (build.oreonhq.com), Watchdog (watchdog.oreonhq.com), mirrors and update delivery (mirrors.oreonhq.com and mirrors.oreonproject.org), the US RPM repository (repo-us.oreonhq.com), the tarball dump (tarballs.oreonhq.com), the rsync mirror view (rsync-mirror-view.oreonhq.com), and Oreon Music (music.oreonhq.com). Using any of them means you agree to these terms.

Accounts and conduct

If a service asks you to sign in, you are responsible for that account. Keep your credentials to yourself. Do not use these services to break the law, attack our systems, or harass other people.

What you post

Posts, files, and messages you put on these services stay yours. You let Oreon HQ store and show them so the service can run. We may remove material that is illegal, abusive, or that puts a service at risk.

Availability

These services are offered as they are. We can change one, pause it, or shut it down. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

No warranty and liability

Hosted services come with no warranty of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Oreon HQ is not liable for loss of posts, files, access, or any other damage from using them.

Ending access

We can suspend an account, close it, or block access if you break these terms, or if we need to protect a service or the people using it.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version stays on this page. Continuing to use a hosted service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
